She walked quickly down the grocery isle knowing exactly what she had came in for. She didn't dilly or dally. Those two actions could incite a conversation with a random stranger longing for some sort of bullshit interaction and/or connection. Instead, she would keep her eyes straight on the prize and shoulders back... the people present would peel back simply like a banana. This was a tactic she had learned at a young age, eyes forward at an end goal and folks would subconsciously move. This strategy, of course, would not work if sunglasses were donned or like current issues, head was deep into a cell phone.
Mild as she would try to keep her short visit to the grocery store, a crack ensnared itself into the fridge of the frozen goods. It was a shallow smidge of a fracture that escalated itself down the aisle to the meat department. Not taken back by the ridiculous display of psychotic features she ventured past the crack, stepping over the magma that lay below just like some Loony Toons character over non-existent ground, and approached the meat. "Ah," she thought eying the perfectly round roast, "This will do." Sasha Vashti, swept it into the cart, and continued swiftly to the self-guided checkout.
It had been a minute now since Donald considered offing himself. He had contemplated the moves of where it would happen, and how; the reasons why, and the doubts however fleeting, he even had given himself the treat of a luxurious last day, and last meal. He had calculated the perfect time, and made spreadsheets of inappropriate coincidences that could possibly happen, with perfect 'ending' sequences. He even had thought ahead to the attire that would be necessary to make such a suicide, successful.
What Donald hadn't expected was, hesitation. He had so carefully thought it all through. All the gains. All the risks if he didn't follow through. There for surely would be a steel clinker, and a secure hugging strap considered a jacket to save the wicked minded form the masses. He would be labeled a looney, and unfit for the public. They all would ridicule his name and worse yet, his Father's name.
Donald thought twice, and decided that another steak dinner was needed for the night.
Heavy in concentration not paying attention to the attractive blonde that had past, he scanned his selection of meat. The striking blonde which had attended the cash register to his left, was having issues scanning hers.
"Fuck my life, really? Now I have to wait for that fucking lady to make her slow ass over here," Sasha was murmuring to herself. Donald could not help but to offer a suggestion. That of course was what he did, offer people suggestions on how to improve their lives for the better. He was a life coach, and a richly motivational one at that, the billboards stated so.
"Do you want to scan mine?" he paused looking at her meat, "We have the same selection and the pounds are almost exact?"
Sighing, and rubbing her forehead wrinkle at the kind gesture in a 'yes' manner, she quickly accepted knowing it would get her out of the store faster. Thank God.
Donald scanned the meat across the red display of lighted bars when the store shook. Sasha looked intensely at him, "We good?" She was staring at him displaying a motion of two hands with thumbs towards the doorway.
"Didn't you just feel that?"
"Feel what? Did you scan the roast? I really need to be getting the hell out of this busy store. Ugh, I hate Vegas."
Almost interrupting her pleas of disgust for their current location, he asked, "The quake? It felt like an earthquake."
Not wanting to dabble in any light conversation this strange man was striking, she quickly bagged her items. Had he saw her flinch at the frozen foods? A quake would make sense. She looked around at the other shoppers. They were unmoved. All the gathered grocers of the day had simply continued with their scanning and bagging.
Another shake, and a crack splintered between her legs. She looked at the man who had just scanned his own purchased meat. He was wide eyed staring down at the ground below her feet with a distorted face of anticipation and disbelief. "I need to be getting home now. Have a good one!" Sasha grabbed her bags and jaunted towards the door.
